If you’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is run over 3 days. These can be consecutive days or done over weekends. We start courses daily and they can be run to fit your schedule. The Course is run for anyone 10 years and older.
- Knowledge development (Done online) to understand basic principles of scuba diving

We will issue you all the theory electronically which you can complete in the comfort of your own home or hotel room.
Meet at the Dive Centre at 7:30am in order to complete paperwork. We will be spending most of the day in and around our purpose-built scuba diving pool to learn the necessary skills for the course.
Chapters 1 – 3 of your Knowledge Development should already have been completed by this stage.
Your Instructor will be taking you for your first 2 boat dives on Aliwal Shoal (one of the best dive sites in the world), where you will practice the skills you learned in the pool, as well as have a shallow fun dive so that you use the equipment and gain confidence and comfort with the gear. After these dive sessions you will log your dives and you will complete any knowledge development that may be outstanding.
Chapters 1 – 5 of your Knowledge Development should already have been completed by this stage. This is the day you have been waiting for, when you will have the opportunity to do your 2 qualifying boat dives on Aliwal Shoal with your Instructor. Aliwal shoal is a 1,5 km wide reef and starts about 5 km off-shore from Umkomaas, on the inner edge of the Mozambique current and in addition the warm waters often provide for excellent visibility.
The Course Includes:
Course materials (PADI Open Water Diver Touch E-learning), Confined Pool modules (practicing skills), four boat dives on the world renowned Aliwal Shoal & use of all equipment required for the duration of the course and PADI Certification.
Children’s Age Requirements
The PADI Open Water Course can be done by anyone older than 10 years, but some restrictions may apply depending on the age. Children older than 14 years can dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 18 meters. Anyone between ages 12-14 year olds must dive with an adult certified diver, and are allowed to 18m. 10-11 year olds are restricted to diving with a parent, guardian or PADI Professional to 12 meters/40 feet maximum depth.
Highest PADI Standard
The PADI Open Water Diver course aims to build confident and self-motivated divers to the highest PADI standard. The course is structured around the student to ensure your comfort throughout the course. Having plenty of time for skill development and practice will ensure you complete the course confident in your abilities to continue diving in the future. Our dive courses can be run as consecutive days or done at your convenience over separate days; each day will run from +- 07:00 AM – 03:00 PM.
Extend Your Qualification To 30 Meters Depth Limit
If you thoroughly enjoyed your PADI Open Water Course and cannot wait to get back into the water, we can recommend doing our PADI Advanced Course as well, which allows you the freedom to dive to 30m.
This course will take an additional 2 days to complete, again including all required equipment and the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver E-learning. Your Advanced Course will include 6 dives on the world renowned Aliwal Shoal (one of the best dive sites in the world). Two of the dives are compulsory, being the Deep Dive and a Navigation Dive. We include Peak Performance Buoyancy as a free extra and then you choose three other dives from the following: Enriched Air Nitrox Dive, Wreck Dive, Fish ID, Underwater Naturalist, DSMB Dive, Digital Underwater Imaging Dive, Boat Dive, Search & Recovery Dive and Drift Dive.
